The Bordeaux wine estate is to open its first office outside Bordeaux. This move is going to get international recognition and speaks volume at how important they find the China to be. There are favorable factors for the move too, Hong Kong 2 years ago canceled all its duties on alcohol and also there is the huge mainland market nearby. Statistics has shown that people are drinking more wine and alcohol in China then anywhere else in the world.
Even a very accomplished brand like this one sees the need to move into the thriving Chinese market. They could not rely solely on their own area and have to make an Chinese move. In mainland China and Hong Kong, there has been an influx of companies coming in from abroad selling wine and also lots of wine auctions around here. Now the wine market is going to make strides in China too.
Thibault Pontallier, the son of Chateau Margaux's managing director, Paul Pontallier, has moved to Hong Kong where he will spend at least two years as ambassador for the brand.
This month he’s visited C&G Corporation’s devisions in Xiamen and Shanghai, to discuss with C&G leaders how they may want to cooperate in future.
