New Zealand is renowned for export products of sea foods and fruits for Chinese, maybe a little bit of white wine.
According to recent report from Nelson NZ, major mussel producers, including Nelson-based Sealord and Blenheim-based Aotearoa Seafoods, have formed a joint venture company to export to China.
According to the chief executive of Wakatu Incorporation, which owns the seafood company, exporting wine to China, however, seems far more difficult than other products like apples, pears and kiwifruit.
“As Nearly all wine drunk in China was expensive reds. White wine was regarded as inferior even though it was better suited to seafood,” he said.
Yet, drinking imported wine among Chinese is getting more fashionable than before. It might be a good opportunity for the Kiwi venture to intruduce its white wine products when presenting the favourite seafood to Chinese customers.
