From floating vineyards to the rise of China as the world's largest wine producer, Berry Bros & Rudd predicts the future of viticulture.
China will become the largest wine producer in the world by 2058, predicts respected UK merchant Berrys in its Future of Wine Report, published on Friday.
Cabernets and chardonnays will be the country's main focus as it leads a new generation of wine nations.
Some believe China could even rival Bordeaux for quality. Jasper Morris MW said: "I absolutely think China will be a fine wine player rivalling the best wines from France."
But the country will need outside help. "China has the vineyards, but not the technical expertise," says Alun Griffiths MW in the report. "However, if good people from wine producing countries think there is opportunity to make wine in China, they will go there and invest."
Alongside China, Eastern European countries including Ukraine, Moldova, Slovenia and Poland are likely to feature much more prominently on wine lists, Berrys believes.
