(1) The global wine consumption keeps steady growth
Annual wine consumption was 318.4 million bottles
The consumption of international wine and sparkling wine was 230.12 million hektoliters in 2006 which was equal to 30.7 billion bottles.
It's predicted that wine consumption would reach 244.52 million hektoliters, up 6.2% from 2006 to 2011. Therefore, international wine consumption will increase 10.8% in the next ten years.
Wine consumption accounted for 92.8% in the world while the growth of sparkling wine consumption was as twice as wine (2.3% annaully) from 2002 to 2011.
The growth of total sales was as twice as consumption
In 2006, the total sales was 108.83 billion dollars, up 9.7% over that of 2002. It' predicted that the growth trend would keep on, up 10.8% from 2006 to 2011. It means that the general growth trend within the ten years is 21.5%.
(2) The biggest coutry for wine consumption in the world
America will be the biggest consomption country of wine in the world till 2011
Vinexpo/ The IWSR 2006 predicted that America would be the biggest country for wine consumption in the world from 2010 to 2011 which was proved in 2007 and 2008.
Since the middle of 1990, America's wine consumption kept on steady growth. It's predicted that American wine consumption would reach 27.97 million hektoliters, 3.73 billion bottles of wines until 2011. On the aspect of wine sales, America was the biggest country in the world. It's the first time for its sales to exceed 20 billion dollars in 2006.
France's consumption reduced while Italy maintained the status quo
France is the biggest country for wine consumption in the world now. In 2006, it consumed 27.11 million hektoliters. However, France's wine consumption reduced to 27 million hektoliters for the next five years. France just seized the third place while Italy would keep on the second place in wine consumption because French consumption reduced by 2% annually since 1960 while Italian consumption kept on being steady.
The market with highest growth
On the aspect of wine consumption, China and Russia increased by the largest margin.
Russian wine consumption increased 5.3 million hectoliters with 40.9% during the period from 2002 to 2006. From 2006 to 2011, Russian wine consumption will increased 31.9%.
China's wine consumption increased 4.79 million hectoliters with 36.6% from 2002 to 2006. From 2006 to 2011, China's wine consumption will increase by 69.2%.
(3) Asian wine consumption increased dramatically
Asia consumed 1 billion bottles of wines
Asian market had been interested in fruit wines and rice wines. However, in 2006, wine consumption firstly reached 8.009 million hectoliters which were equal to 1.07 billion bottles in Aisan market, up 21.14% over that of 2002.
According to the Vinexpo/IWSR's research for Aisa (including China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, India, Taiwan, Thailand, Philippine, Vietnam and Malaysia), from 2004 to 2005, wine consumption increased by 10.4%. From 2005 to 2006, it increased 8%.
Vinexpo/IWSR predicted that wine consumption would increase 11.856 million hectoliters until 2011, up 48%, twice of that of the period from 2002 to 2006 and also 8 times as much as that of other countries in the world. Asian wine consumption will accounted for 4.8% of global wine consumption till 2011.
The sales of wine consumption is equivalent to the earning of Macao's bet industry
In 2006, Asian wine consumption was 4.753 billion dollars, up 12.6% of 2002. It's predicted that sales would increase 33.9%, 6.368 billion dollars from 2006 to 2011.
In 2006, Asian wine sales accounting for 5% of the global sales were equivalent to the earning of Macao's bet industry (5 billion dollars).
(4) Aisa leading market
Japan is the biggest importer
In 2006, Japan accounted for 57.6% of the consumption of the area. From 2002 to 2006, Japan's wine imports reduced 5.3%. However, Vinexpo/The IWSR predicted that Japanese wine imports would increase by 9.4% from 2006 to 2011.
China is the biggest country for consuming wines
In 2006, the consumption of China (including Hong Kong) accounted for 62.7% of Asia's. And it's predicted that the growth would reach 69.2%, 8.11 million hectoliters from 2006 to 2011.
China will exceed Russia and Malaysia to be the number eight wine consuming country (from number ten) in the world.
France is the biggest supplier for Asian market
In 2006, France exceeded America, Italy, Australia and Chile to be the second biggest wine exporter and to be the main supplier for Asian market, accounting for 39.6% of the area's imports.
