The general situation of Qingdao wine market
www.wines-info.com by Wing 2008-7-2 15:01:02

Qingdao is the important coastal city and international conference center. Its area is 10654 sq.km. and it has 7.2 million population. In 2007, Qingdao's annual wine consumption was about 200 million yuan. Besides Beijing, Qingdao is the biggest wine market in areas north of the Changjiang River.

In terms of domestic wines in Qingdao, Qingdao Huadong Winery Co., Ltd is the giant with 65% market shares. Its sales is about 100 million yuan. Changyu company is in the second place with 40 million yuan of consumption.

In terms of imported wines, Aussino Fine Wines cooperated with a Qingdao company in 2007. They promoted wine culture and held wine-tasting events there which led to a new concept of imported wine promotion in Qingdao. Qingdao Longhai Group purchased Bordeaux chateau and set up a bottling factory and cellar with nearly 200 million yuan. Qingdao Overseas Wines set up a large cellar and invested wine tourism, but it seldom promote overseas wines. At a later time, ASC wines and South Arican wines entered Qingdao. But their sales of overseas wines is so so. However, the imported wines consumption of Qingdao Aussino Fine Wines is best in Qingdao. Most of the overseas wine companies are attached to realty companies in Qingdao. They invested large sums in the first phase, but they paid little attention to wine promotion.

Imported wines' quality and culture influenced domestic wines largely. The sales of high-end wines of Qingdao Huadong reduced 20%. Changyu's sales is less than 70% of that of last year. Domestic wine market is changing, but the situation of imported wine in Qingdao is not so optimistic.
