Economic crisis will lead to the price reduction of wine in China

With RMB Appreciation, prices of more and more foreign food had reduced since the latter half of this year. On the pressures of economic crisis and the upgrading of domestic wine consumption, imported wine will be influenced largely. These will lead to the price reduction of wine on domestic market in China.

It's said that more and more wine promotion activities were held in October. Therefore, prices of wines were reduced in the whole country, except Beijing and Shenyang. In November, fewer promotions were held. In Sugar & Beverage Fair, imported wines invested large sum to show their wines and prepared well to explore future market.

Economic crisis led to a decline in demand in foreign wine market. An English research showed that consumers reduced the costs of wine. And prices instead of grape varieties became the main factor for consumers to select wines. At the same time, France moved for an amendment that wine-tasting promotions for free were forbidden.

Imported wines were distinctly influenced by economic crisis and China's updating of wine consumption. According to the Shenzhen Customs' statistics, in the previous three quarters, Shenzhen port imported 6.657 million liters of wines in volume and 69.622 million dollars by value, up 60.6% and 1.3 times over that of the same period of last year. In addition, the prices of imported wines increased massively. Shenzhen port's average price of imported wines was 10.5 dollars/liter, up 45.6%. Besides RMB Appreciation, price reduction of international crude oil was also led to the reduction of costs of wines. Therefore, wine prices will decline substantially in the first half of 2009.
