When 2009 New Year arrives, Australian wine promotion will be launched in Hangzhou, China. The Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) will promote Australian premium wines with Hangzhou's Australian wine importers.

In recent years, China's wine sales kept on increasing. In 2007, China exceeded Japan to be Australia's biggest wine importer in Asia. And Australia was China's second biggest supplier of wine.

Austrade always held wine promotions in Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou as well as other cities in order to attract Chinese wine lovers. At the same time, Austrade also exploited the potential market of other cities in China.

Austrade opened offices in 15 of China's major cities including HK and Macao. In addition, it set up wine groups. Austrade concentrated strength and resources on promoting Australian wines in China.

The first Hangzhou International Wine Festival will be held on January 1-3, 2009. Local people can taste premium Australian wines there.
