Australian wine exports to Asia have experienced significant growth, with China, Hong Kong and Japan identified as the best performers in value growth for the year ended February 2009.

The largest growth was reported in China, with shipment value increasing by 37 per cent, representing $20 million in new business, the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation (AWBC) reported.

Exports to Hong Kong were up by 18 per cent, or $6 million, while Japan shipment value increased by 4 per cent, or $2 million.

The volume of total wine exports declined overall by 5 per cent compared to the same period last year, while bulk shipments increased 18 per cent. 

The majority of this growth corresponds to the white wine sector, with bulk red wine shipments remaining relatively stable.

The AWBC produces monthly export reports to assist in monitoring changes in Australian export performances.
