Wine Australia Annual Tasting in China
www.wines-info.com by 2009-03-18

The single biggest tasting of Australian wine ever held in China takes place in Shanghai on May 15 at the Regal International East Asia Hotel, hosted by the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation and Austrade China.

Over 50 Australian wineries exporting to China and a selection of new wines never seen before in China will be showcased as Wine Australia launches what is to become an annual event.

"We will be featuring a diverse range of wines and styles, including a number that are new to China, which should be of great interest to the local wine trade in particular," commented Ms Ali Hogarth, Regional Manager for the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation.

"Never before have we brought so many wines and such an exciting diversity of wine styles to China for one event in one place. It really will be a unique journey of discovery for any wine lover, trader or writer - a delicious exploration across Australian wine regions without even having to leave Shanghai."

"Many of Australia's winemakers will also be a part of this year's celebration."

The Wine Australia Tasting will be three events in one, running throughout the day. An open trade session will be followed by a private invitation only media tasting, leading into a VIP tasting where guests will enjoy the wines over an evening reception hosted by the Australian Consul General.

"We're targeting trade and media visitors from across regional China. This event provides a unique educational and sourcing platform for businesses in China to connect with Australian wines that are in China, across all price levels and varieties; ready for immediate order and delivery," Austrade Trade Commissioner, Julie-Anne Nichols added.

"Bottled Australian wine exports to China have increased 26% by volume in the 12 months to the end of February. The size of this event simply reflects the growth of a genuine wine culture in Shanghai and across China and the extraordinary interest in what Australia has to offer."

The AWBC has significantly expanded its activity in China since last year's event, including the launch of a formalised partnership with Austrade China, the release of a Program to support Australian wineries exporting to China, and the appointment of a full-time Market Development Officer based in the Austrade Shanghai office.

Austrade's network of 15 offices across China, Hong Kong and Macao also provides a unique support network for Australian wineries seeking market entry or market share growth and regional sales extension.
